DIY: Chalk Board

I’ve always wanted a chalk board in my kitchen but I could never find anything at a decent price so I decided to make my own. I found a board at a primitive store that they were selling for $15.00, with the materials. this project only cost me a total of $20. Which is pretty good considering most chalk boards for a fair size can cost up to $50 to $100.00

You’ll need;

  • Painters tape
  • old news papers,

and of course the chalk paint. You can either get it in a can which is more expensive which I think it’s a lot easier to apply but the spray paint kind that I got since it’s cheaper.

Make sure you cover the board well, the only thing that should be visible is where you want to paint.

Apply your first coat and let it dry, apply up to 10 or 20 coats, depending how thick you want it, I pretty much used the entire can. The whole process can take a couple of hours and when you’re satisfied with the amount of coats let it dry completely for 24 hours. Once dry, take a chalk and mark all over the chalk board and erase. Voila! your chalk board is ready to be used. Enjoy!

I added a little garland at the top to give it a primitive look, it’s kind of the theme in my kitchen. Adding a hook in the back was a must since the board didn’t come with one but you can find those at any dollar store.

Hanging pretty in my kitchen.
